Thursday, September 19 at 6:30 p.m.
What if all the clothes hanging in your closet were your favorite? What if your

your enjoyment of life?
Chic Simple says ... Instead of what if, how about why not? Chic Simple is a
primer for living well but sensibly. It is for those who believe that quality
of life comes not in accumulating things but in pairing down to the essentials.
Chic Simple enables people to bring value and style into their lives with economy
and simplicity. This philosophy is put into practice via a simple process: assess,
dejunk, renew.
Founded in 1992 by Kim Johnson Gross and Jeff Stone, Chic Simple is a muti-media

MAKING YOUR FINANCIAL PLAN WORK NO MATTER WHAT
Tuesday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Many people feel that their financial plan is driven by how their investments
are performing. While investment performance is an integral part of a financial
plan, it is only one piece of a much larger model. A comprehensive financial
plan should allow for the building of the maximum amount of wealth that is optimally
possible, being able to spend and enjoy the wealth without the fear of running
out, and ultimately leaving assets to those whom you choose. The financial plan
must work no matter what. Things like death, disability, lawsuits, inflation,
taxes, and market fluctuations can have a devastating effect on a financial
plan. Too often, so called financial plans make assumptions that the market
will only go up and nothing bad will happen to someone. Well how much better
would a financial plan be if it included a bullet proof defense and recaptured
costs on the defense and offense that somebody did not even know they were losing?
On, October 1, you will learn how a good defense in a financial plan can unlock
more of the offense. You will learn a very simple strategy that should apply
to most everyone in the room that you can take home with you and implement immediately
that will make any financial plan better.
Members of the panel will include Benjamin A. Geber, a financial advisor with
First Financial Group, Tamera Davidson, a CPA of The Davidson Group, and John
Hertzke, an estate planning attorney with McGuire Woods.

OKTOBERFEST GERMAN DINNER AND BEER TASTING: MATCHING
THE PERFECT BEER FOR EACH COURSE
Thursday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m.
The roots of Oktoberfest in Germany trace back to the early fall of each year.
During this period, any of last year's beer was consumed before the coming harvest
of barley and hops, which brought the brewing of new beer. Oktoberfest officially
began as a celebration in the early 1800's in honor of the marriage of Crown
Prince Ludwig and Princess Theresia of Bavaria. It continues to be one of the
world's best-known festivals, with the largest event taking place in Munich
every September and October.
However, if you cannot make it to Munich this year, don't worry: we will bring
a taste of it to you. Embrace the spirit of this exciting German festival with
a hearty German meal and the tastiest of German beers. Five beers for five courses:
In a single evening, join us as we learn the secrets of enjoying great beer
with a great meal. Our expert brewmaster will explain to us the recipes, background
and distinctions of five German beers as he guides us as to why each beer goes
best with each particular course served with your dinner.
Each member will receive a six ounce glass of beer with each course served (menu
TBA).
Where: Capitol City Brewing Company
2 Massachusetts Avenue, N.E. (next to Union Station)

LOCK AND KEY PARTY AT THE VIP CLUB
Friday, October 4 at 7:30p.m.
This is always a very popular event with several hundred attendees. Here is
how it works: Every female attendee receives a padlock. Every male attendee
receives a key. The object is to match the right key with the right padlock.
The first three matches win prizes. Throughout your search, you are destined
to meet scores of fellow young professionals.
The VIP Club is D.C.'s newest and hottest nightclub. Starting with a gleaming
coat of ivory-colored paint and tinted front windows, the VIP Club impresses
even before you walk in. A foyer with a concierge and coat-check greets you
inside the glass doors. Inside, the club is paneled in warm maple, glowing from
the light of artful metal sconces. There's a long bar, fronted by dozens of
sleek stools, while scattered around the room are custom-designed couches and
boleros (a sort of round banquette that you'll find on each of the club's four
floors, a different color on each: wine, lime green, steel blue, orange). Each
of the four floors is gorgeous. It's as simple as that. Even the stairwells,
with their brushed steel walls, are stunning.
There will be a cash bar for this event.

1) Upon arrival, we will break you into teams of 6 or 7 people. If you wish
to be placed on the same team as any of your friends, we will accomodate your
request. Otherwise, we will assign you randomly to a team. This is a great way
to get to know new people. Each team will be given a list of several items to
retrieve. The items are all of little or no cost.
2) The list will also contain a location where each team must check in by a
certain time. Each team should take whatever items it has and proceed to that
location by the designated time. If you are late, you lose points. Teams are
not expected to retrieve all of the items listed.
3) Throughout the day, at each location, points will be calculated, teams will
get a brief time to rest, and teams will be given a different list of items
to retrieve and take to the next location. There will be 5 or 6 different check-ins
throughout the Washington, D.C. Area, all of which are near Metro Stations.
At each check-in, teams will be given new scavenger hunt lists.
4) Bonuses are given to the first team to arrive at each respective location.
Teams will leave each location in the order in which they arrived. The winning
team will be the one that collects the most points. Prizes will be awarded to
the top teams.
All participants will receive complimentary admission to our upcoming Halloween
Party on October 31 (details to be provided soon). All teams must use public
transportation. Teams caught using personal cars will be disqualified.
Throughout the day, you will visit many landmarks, restaurants, schools, theaters,
and much much more! There are over 100 items listed and what you see depends
upon your team's resolve, speed and ability to have fun!
When: Saturday, October 5 at 11:30 a.m. The race starts at noon sharp!
The race will have two different end points. There will be a 3:45 p.m. end point
for teams that wish to enter a shorter version of the race, and a 6:30 p.m.
endpoint for teams that wish to enter the complete race. Both races are the
exact same, except that the longer race has two additional legs to it. Upon
your arrival, you will decide which endpoint you wish to have. We recommend
the longer race, although we understand that some people have other obligations
that make the full day race impractical.
Where: Meet at Union Station right outside of the inside entrance to America
Restaraunt.

INTRODUCTION TO ZEN
Tuesday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Tonight, we will study a fascinating method of mind training and philosophy
that enables one to perform better at one's profession, whether as a samurai
warrior or a business person. Zen can also be a method in which we improve our
personal lifestyle through deep thought and philosophical concepts.
Zen isn't so much a "what" as it is a "how"—as in, a way to eliminate unneeded
hardships and obstacles to achieve important goals. The idea is that we endure
hardships because we become attached to impermanent things in an improper fashion
—people, possessions, money, life, clothing sizes. We resist change, which is
inevitable, and thus we suffer. Zen teachings say that if we live, without worrying
about the future or hanging on to the past, and if we learn how to properly
concentrate on our priorities, our lives are richer. As we learn how to create
inner peace through the philosophical teachings of Zen, we pay more attention
to the things we do, we appreciate the things we have, and our every action
and interaction is as good and successful as it can possibly be.
"Zen" is not just one thing. It CAN be a way of life, it CAN be a philosophy,
it CAN be an ascetic religious practice, it CAN be a political/religious movement
intended to attract patronage from the Chinese emperor, and so on. However,
we will study Zen not as a religious movement, but rather as an Asian concept
we can learn from to improve our personal and professional lives. We will learn
how to refocus priorities to help achieve our life goals.

PRESIDENT LINCOLN ASSASSINATION WALKING TOUR
Wednesday, October 9 at 7 p.m.
This tour is lead by Lincoln scholar and public speaker, Anthony S. Pitch, author
of the award winning book "'They have killed papa dead!'- The Assassination
of Abraham Lincoln." Anthony Pitch offers truly remarkable insights into this
historical event.
President Lincoln's assassination was perhaps one of the most tragic moments
in our country's history. Tonight, learn about one of America's most famous
Presidents, and the tragic plot that lead to his death. A walk in the footsteps
of one of America's most beloved Presidents and one of America's most reviled
assassins and his co-conspirators. Stand in front of the White House and see
where Lincoln delivered his last speech and where John Wilkes Booth vowed to
kill him.
See the posh home of Major Henry Rathbone, Lincoln's theater guest, who struggled
with the assassin moments after the murder. This walk also passes by the site
where another conspirator stabbed Secretary of State William Seward, and continues
to the location where Vice President Andrew Johnson was sworn in as Lincoln's
successor.
We will walk to Ford's Theater, where Lincoln was mortally wounded on April
14, 1865. We will see the Petersen House across the road, where Lincoln died
the following morning in a bed too small for his 6ft. 4in.body. We will see
where the conspirators boarded and plotted, and where some were arrested in
Mary Surratt's notorious brick boarding house...and we will see much, much more!
WHERE: Meet beside equestrian statue of Andrew Jackson, in the center of Lafayette
Square facing the front of White House.
Specifically the statue is in the center of Lafayette Park, on Pennsylvania
Avenue between Jackson Place and Madison Place, NW, across from the White House.

SECRET ADMIRER'S SINGLES DINNER AT MAGGIANO'S
Thursday, October 17 at 6 p.m.
Repeating an event that always sells out in advance for both men and women,
the D.C. Society of Young Professionals brings you a Secret Admirer's Singles
Dinner at Maggiano's. If you ever wanted to secretly meet that special person
you saw across the room or to get to know someone you just met before setting
up a date, this is the best way to do it.
This time, we transport you to one of the city's most romantic settings, with
the ambiance of the romantic gondola singers in Venice, and the charm of the
beautiful streets of Florence. Plenty of food, the sounds of Frank Sinatra and
other Italian American favorites, and hundreds of young professionals looking
to meet their perfect match at one of Washington, D.C.'s most popular Italian
restaurants.
(A) 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
(1) From 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., this event begins with a social reception
(cash bar) in which you mix and mingle with the other 240 attendees (half male
and half female of course). When you arrive, you receive a blank notecard. During
this first hour, each attendee will have a identifying number on his or her
respective nametag.
(2) During this reception, you should look around, meet whomever you can and
decide whom you want to sit at your table (regardless of whether you met this
person).
(3) By 7:00 p.m., make sure you have written down on your confidential respective
notecards five identifying numbers of the attendees of the opposite sex with
whom you want to sit at your table. The numbers should be listed in order of
preference.
(B) 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
(1) Between 7:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., we will collect all confidential notecards;
(2) By 7:15 p.m., each attendee must have turned in his or her confidential
notecards;
(3) At 7:15 p.m., our staff will begin preparing the table seating arrangements.
The first notecard will be selected at random. Once we pick that notecard, we
will sit that person with his or her first priority (i.e., the person whom he
or she lists first on his or her confidential notecard). We will then retrieve
the confidential notecard of that second person and add to the table that person's
first priority. We will continue on through all the cards. With each new table,
we will select the first card at random. When we are finished with all table
assignments, we will give each person his or her table assignment.
By the time we are finished, each person is sitting at a table where either
(i) they have one of their choices as a table mate, (ii) they have been chosen
by another at their table as a priority to sit with, or (iii) both. Best of
all, all choices are kept confidential, so nobody will ever know who you requested
to have seated at your table or who requested to have you seated at their table.
At the end of the evening, DCYoungPro will destroy all confidential notecards.
Hence, the "secret admirer" part of this event.
So, for example, lets say you are a female attendee who has selected on your
note card male attendees numbers 8, 15, 22, 25, and 40 in that order. Then,
lets say we begin by looking at a different male attendee's notecard - lets
say number 22 . Male attendee number 22 has chosen you to sit at his table.
We then look at your card. If number 8 is your first priority, and he has not
yet been seated, then we will seat you at a table with number 8 and number 22.
Then, we will pull number 8's notecard and check his list of priorities. (If
8 had already been seated when you requested him, we would then see if attendee
15 had been seated yet).
(C) 8 p.m. - 10 p.m. - DINNER.
FIVE COURSE MENU:
(a) APPETIZERS:
1) Fresh Mozzarella
2) Spinach and Artichoke al Forno
(b) SALAD:
1) Maggianos Signature Salad with Prosciutto
2) Caesar Salad
(c) MAIN PASTA COURSE
Four Cheese Ravioli with Marinara Sauce
(d) MAIN MEAT COURSE
Chicken Marsala

COMEDY SPORTZ NIGHT
Wednesday October 23 at 7:30 p.m.
DCSYP invites you out to an exclusive interactive comedy performance as you
may never have seen before. If you like the hit TV show, "Whose Line Is It Anyway?",
then you are going to LOVE ComedySportz! ComedySportz is not a show ABOUT sports.
It is a show that IS a sport. Described by the Washington Post as "a high octane
mix of psycho-parlor games, improv and slapstick," ComedySportz, DC has consistently
been the most popular, and is also the longest running, comedy improvisation
troupe in the DC area. It has been around since its founding in 1987. Creating
a distinctive and never-before-seen show with every new performance, and relying
solely on audience interaction, ComedySportz is unique. It is live comedy operating
without a safety net. It is an exceptional experience in that the audience never
just watches a show, the audience becomes a part of the performance.
ComedySportz is competitive improvisational comedy, played as a team sport.
Watching a show is like going to a sporting event, with vendors, a stadium organist,
and even the national anthem. The show itself is a match between two teams of
trained professional athletes or comedians, who out-duel each other with wordplay,
comedic scenes, musical styles, and other fast-paced action all based on audience
suggestions. We make it all up as we go along. The ComedySportz referee is on
hand to time the games, take suggestions, and call the fouls, including the
brown bag foul, which is given to any player or audience member who engages
in lewd, crude, or filthy humor. ComedySportz is a family show. Popcorn provided.
When: Wednesday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Ballston Common Mall, Intersections of Glebe Rd and Randolph Rd and Glebe
Rd and Wilson Blvd, Arlington Virginia

HAUNTED GEORGETOWN WALKING TOUR
Wednesday, October 30 at 7 p.m.
Georgetown is not just about students, restaurants, shopping and a fancy Harbor.
Hidden mysterious secrets of ghosts and unusual happenings have haunted these
streets for hundreds of years. Join us and many Georgetown spirits for a private
Halloween Eve tour of the most haunted and frightening spots in Georgetown.
In a single evening, we will learn about and perhaps encounter ghosts from the
early 18th century, Civil War figures, and 20th Century residents, including,
perhaps, even some of the dearly departed Kennedys.
Join us for a walk down the Exorcist steps and hear stories that include a stunning
mansion haunted by a mad owner and the lovely Federal-period home where candles
are said to extinguish on their own at 10 p.m. sharp. We will learn about some
Kennedy scandals that came home to roost through ghostly residents, as we touch
upon the famous family's aura that still haunts the homes and parks where they
lived and played touch football. And that is just for starters. We will begin
with an early 19th Century cemetery once used as a stop on the Underground Railroad.
For added effect, and best ghostly sightings, bring a flashlight!
When: Wednesday, October 30 at 7 p.m.

ADVENTURES IN PAINTBALL
Sunday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m.
Due to popular demand and the need for greeat fun and exercise, we are repeating
last year's exciting full day of paintball. In 15 short years, the sport of
paintball has become recognized as one of the world's most exciting outdoor
participation sports. Paintball is played in over 40 countries by millions of
men and women of all ages and lifestyles.
Enjoy a FULL DAY of fun, exercise and imagination. Put away your cell phones
and laptops. Gear up and take on your fellow young professionals in a series
of games designed to test your speed, reflexes and ingenuity.
Battleground includes: forts, a castle, bunkers, pill boxes, bridges, tree houses
and more! Play capture the flag, hide and find, seize and conquer, and many,
many more games!
We begin the day with thorough safety training by a Paintball Safety Council
Certified Instructor, and we will have our own private referees for the day.
We provide protective goggles and other safety equipment for all attendees (Insurance
statistics have shown that paintball is safer than golf, jogging, tennis, swimming
and many other sports).
Army lunch is included: hot dogs, chips and soda. (or bring your own - no sushi,
sautéed potatoes or other fancy dishes allowed today). Dine by our private cabin
on the lake.
